Q: So what is the War for Arcadia, exactly?
A: War for Arcadia is the name of our online comics battle. You
create a character, register with our forums, and 'fight' against
other artists by drawing comics back and forth with each other's
characters.
Q: Fight in battles? How does that work?
A: Simple. Person A starts off by drawing a series of pages (taking
six days to draw them) depicting their character fighting Person
B's. Person B reciprocates. After two turns, everyone on the forum
votes, and the player with the most votes wins.
Q: What does the winner get?
A: Bragging rights, mostly, but we're working on a system that
can get the winners actual prizes.
Q: When I create my character, am I giving
away any creative rights to the War for Arcadia website?
A: No, we're not evil. Any characters you create here are owned
by you, to do whatever you want with them. If you want to use them
in a best-selling comic book/cartton/movie series, go ahead, and
we won't stop you. In fact, creators from our forum have already
made their own print
comics with their characters!
Q: I've seen other comics battles online. What
makes this one any different?
A: Aside from having a great website and lots of cool participants?
One thing we have here is an ongoing meta-fiction that all the battles
take place in. Unlike other comics battles, this isn't a huge free-for-all
with everyone up against everyone else. We have two main factions
- The Celestial Empire (the cool bad guys) and La Revolution (the
hippie good guys). Kinda like the Empire and the Rebellion. Okay,
exactly like that.
Q: So what does having factions mean?
A: All the battles take place on a big map of a continent - Arcadia
- which both sides are fighting to take control of. Hence, the "War
For Arcadia" title. Whenever a player for one side wins a round
(by receiving the most votes), their faction 'claims' that battle
arena. The ultimate goal of both sides is to take all the arenas
and rule Arcadia. So as you can see, it has art battles mixed with
a larger strategy-type game, something like Risk. Where you place
your battles and who you go up against is almost as important as
how well you can draw.
Q: What kinds of comics/characters can I make
for the fights?
A: Any kind you want. We have players here who are focused on cartoony
styles, manga/anime, superhero - anything goes, as long as it's
comics pages. There's no limit to the pages you make during your
turn, or the kind of content. Because of this, we warn people that
a lot of naughty things can ake place in these pages - bad language,
nudity, graphic violence - you know, all the good stuff.
Q: Is there anywhere I can go to see the full
set of rules?
A: Absolutely! All that info is here.
